This is a simple place with no algorithms, ads, or comment sections. Just one short video uploaded by a random user each day.
The selected user will have 24 hours to upload a video. They will be notified via email and on this site. If their video does not violate our fairly lax upload guidelines, it will be posted a day later.
While live, viewers can 'like' or 'dislike' a video to show general public feedback. Depending on how viewers feel, they can instead choose to send a monetary 'tip' to the uploader. Or if viewers are really unhappy with what they are watching, they can send a little 'fuck this' instead.
I thought I'd give this idea a try after imagining what I would show the world if I only had one minute. Will we hear views on society, politics, or culture? Probably. Will we witness ideas that would otherwise be missed? Certainly.
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to support languages other than English on the site. Translating text is not hard, but transcribing and translating speech in a video might be tricky.
Terms & Conditions
These terms are short on purpose. They're a few minutes' read, not a legal maze - and everything here is something we actually do.
1. Privacy
Your privacy matters to us and to the person who runs this site. We never sell user data.
We don't use third-party trackers.
The only things we keep are: basic log-in and site-use data (used to detect bots and to make the site work), and the information you submit yourself. That's all.
Links leave our site: if you visit a payment processor or any other outside service, their tracking and their policies are their own - we can't control them and aren't responsible for them.
2. Ownership
You keep your content. onlyone.watch does not own - and never gains ownership of - the videos or content you upload. The uploader always stays the owner.
You can request your video be taken down before its 24-hour live window ends on its own. We'll do our best and act as fast as we can, but we can't guarantee an immediate response to a removal request.
3. Content
Every video is checked before it goes live - but some content may still upset some viewers. (See the separate Video Upload Guidelines.)
onlyone.watch and its administrators do not necessarily share the views expressed in any video. People have the right to opposing views, and they have the right to share them here.
4. Sign up requirements
Users must be 18 or older to create an account.
A verified email is required to enter the daily draw, send tips, or vote.
By creating an account or uploading a video, you agree to these terms and to the Video Upload Guidelines.
Video Upload Guidelines
Keep it under a minute. Don't be hateful, don't steal, don't shock people for no reason. Everything else is judged case by case - grey areas exist and we'll use our best judgment in all of them.
The practical stuff
Length: 60 seconds or less. A longer video won't be rejected - it will just be trimmed to the FIRST 60 seconds.
Source resolution: Full HD (1080p) or smaller - a video with any side longer than 1920 pixels (4K, 2.7K, 1440p) is rejected. 1080p is already more than enough, since the final video is scaled down to at most 720 pixels anyway.
File size: maximum 500 MB - larger files are rejected before they upload. If yours is over the limit, trim it to roughly a minute (only the first 60 seconds is kept anyway) or lower the resolution.
Output size: the video is scaled down to no larger than 720 pixels in either dimension (the shape is preserved).
Quality: videos are compressed, so fine text or tiny graphics may lose detail. Keep important words big.
Formats: almost anything works - MP4, MOV (iPhones record these), WebM, 3GP, MKV, AVI and most other formats the site can decode. Whatever you send is always converted to a clean MP4.
We'll reject videos that contain:
Hate speech against any person or group. It is always possible to criticize without hatred. This is - and always will be - a grey area, and we'll apply our best judgment. We value freedom of speech, but some words are hateful or oppressive in themselves, and those don't fly here.
Material protected by copyright, or anything the uploader can't honestly claim to own (see "Allowed" below).
Pornography, sexual content, or nudity for its own sake (see "Allowed" below).
Gore or unnecessary violence. Another grey area: we want to inform viewers, not ruin their day - or scar them for life.
Allowed:
Fair-use copyrighted material. If the content can genuinely be argued as "fair use" - for journalistic purposes, for example - it will be considered. We'll be careful.
Swear words, as long as the video still follows every rule above.
Nudity, but only where the context can justify it - some art or culture, for example. No, your nude selfies are not "art" by our measure. Grey area; best judgment.
Speech, text, or diagrams ABOUT hate, oppression, sex, or violence, when the point is to present information about those topics.
If your submission is rejected, you'll be told why - and if you're a selected uploader with time left in your window, you can usually submit a revised version.
